Orthopedic Physical Therapy

Orthopedic Physical Therapy, OKOrthopedic rehabilitation refers to the treatment of injuries to muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, bones, and the peripheral nervous system.  Typical areas of treatment in orthopedic rehab are:

  • Shoulder
  • Elbow
  • Wrist/hand
  • Hip
  • Knee
  • Ankle/foot

Often the focus of physical therapy treatment is to decrease pain, increase muscle strength and flexibility, and increase function.  Some common orthopedic injuries or diseases are carpal tunnel syndrome, bone fractures, whiplash, degenerative joint disease, arthritis and moderate to severe sprains.

Orthopedic rehabilitation often overlaps sports rehabilitation in the common areas of injuries, but is less focused on the need for intensive rehabilitation aimed at moving the athlete safely back into sports as quickly as possible.
